Gender justice is key to addressing the interlinked climate and humanitarian crises. Since we know that women and girls are disproportionately impacted by crises, they must be an integral, leading part in designing policies and implementing actions to address those crises.
Inclusion of women’s and girls’ voices will ensure that resulting policies both reduce climate and humanitarian risks, and at the same time reduce gender stereotypes and barriers to full equality. If gender justice is not included in climate and humanitarian action, there is a high risk that policy responses will be inadequate techno-fixes that maintain or even strengthen existing gender inequalities and other forms of social exclusion.
