Alongside the tri-annual meetings offered to members, the HRN also provides occasional ‘learning days’ in which a training is available to members on a specific topic.
For example, in May 2019 the HRN co-hosted an event with the Canadian Red Cross entitled “Gender equality in humanitarian assistance: gaining a deeper understanding”. Members contributed to a world café style workshop with their experiences and knowledge of how to best support gender equality across all areas of humanitarian intervention.
The HRN is currently (2019-2021) partially funded by Global Affairs Canada to support capacity building opportunities for members. These subsidized trainings will enhance members’ capacity in the areas of humanitarian standards, needs assessments, gender equality in emergencies, and safety and security. The HRN is able to find cost-effective solutions to build the collective knowledge capacity in Canada, and thus better programming and responses to the needs of affected populations in crisis.
