Land Acknowledgement
At the Humanitarian Response Network (HRN), hosted at Cooperation Canada, we believe it is essential to recognize and respect the Indigenous lands on which we live and work. With a membership of over 50 humanitarian organizations across the country, we are mindful of the diverse Indigenous territories our colleagues and partners are situated on, and the histories and rights that continue to shape them.
The main Cooperation Canada office, located in Ottawa, sits on the unceded, traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. These lands have been cared for by the Algonquin people since time immemorial and continue to carry deep cultural and spiritual significance.
As a network committed to principles of equity, justice, and solidarity, we recognize that reconciliation is not a one-time statement, but an ongoing responsibility. This includes understanding the colonial foundations of the systems we work within, and actively seeking ways to support Indigenous sovereignty and voices — in Canada and beyond.
We are committed to deepening our learning, holding space for reflection, and integrating this awareness into our humanitarian work, knowing that justice begins at home.
